This one-block reduction lino cut by Kirstie Dedman presents a view of the moon, inspired by a star-gazing journey up a volcano in Tenerife. The work marks a departure from the artist’s usual style, created without colour and printed using transparent inks and black to produce a graphic image. Despite this shift in approach, Kirstie’s ongoing interest in light and shadow remains central, with tonal contrasts capturing the atmosphere of the night sky.
The print is made using the reduction lino cut process, a technique in which a single block of lino is carved and printed in stages. After each layer is printed, more of the surface is cut away, making the process irreversible and creating a limited edition, as no further prints can be made once the block is fully reduced.
Printed on Fabriano paper using artist-quality Caligo inks, the work brings together material and process in a study of the lunar surface.

Paper size is 36.7 cm by 26.5 cm and the print size is 30.6cm by 20.4cm

Materials used:

lino, cutting tools, roller, inks, printing press, paper
