Light Across the Blue is an original large contemporary abstract seascape painting by Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026. Measuring 80 × 120 cm, this one-of-a-kind acrylic painting explores the moment when light moves across water and transforms an otherwise quiet landscape into something luminous and constantly changing.

When I began this painting, I was thinking less about a particular place and more about a familiar sensation—the moment when the sky suddenly opens after heavy clouds and light reaches the surface of the water. Everything changes for a few minutes: distant forms become softer, reflections appear, and even the darkest areas begin to reveal unexpected color.

I built the composition around this transition from light to depth. The upper section is open and atmospheric, with layers of pale blue, soft turquoise, ivory, warm beige and misty grey. Across the center, horizontal passages create the suggestion of distant water and reflected light. Toward the bottom, the colors become deeper and more dramatic, moving into navy, charcoal, dark brown and blue-black.

Warm ochre, rust and earthy brown accents appear between these cooler tones, adding contrast and suggesting fragments of shoreline or land illuminated by changing light.

I created the painting with professional acrylic paints using palette knives, brushes, glazing, scraping, dry-brush techniques, layering, dripping and expressive impasto applications. Thick textured passages interact with thinner translucent layers, while scraped areas reveal fragments of earlier colors beneath the surface. These variations give the painting depth and make its appearance subtly change depending on the surrounding light.

The palette combines aqua blue, pale turquoise, dusty blue, blue-grey, slate grey, deep navy, charcoal, blue-black, warm white, ivory, cream, beige, taupe, sand, ochre, rust brown, burnt umber and espresso brown.

Although the composition carries the atmosphere of a seascape, I intentionally kept it between landscape and abstraction. It can evoke open water, a distant shoreline, reflected clouds, wet earth, or simply layers of color and light. I prefer not to define the scene completely, allowing the viewer to bring their own memories and associations into the work.

For me, Light Across the Blue is about those brief moments in nature when light changes our perception of a familiar place. The landscape itself may remain the same, yet suddenly we see it differently.

With its substantial 80 × 120 cm vertical format, the painting has a strong presence while retaining an airy, sophisticated atmosphere created by its balance of blue, beige and natural earth tones.

This is a unique, one-of-a-kind original acrylic painting on canvas, signed on the front and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Please note: The painting is sold unstretched and shipped rolled in a protective tube for safe international transportation. It will require stretching onto wooden stretcher bars after delivery.
