The work is part of the post-modern citation, where the haulite baroque of Giuseppe Bartolomeo Chiari is "desecrated" by a pop and hyper-contemporary insert.
Replacing the classic fig leaf or drapery with a basketball sock is not just a goliardic act, but a reflection on the protection and exposure of the male body.
The reference to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers (famous for their "socks-only" performances) turns the god of intoxication into a Californian rockstar, replacing Dionysian ecstasy with the raw energy of funk-rock.
The giclée format on canvas 60x40 stabilises this visual short circuit in a piece of furniture that questions the viewer on the border between sacred and kitsch.
Slasky, as in many of his iconic rewritings, does not destroy the classic myth — he literally drains it of air. What remains is a shiny, inflatable and transparent surface: the thin skin of contemporary Europe, fragile and at constant risk of deflating.
Gicleè on Hahnemuhle 350gr + certificate of authenticity
