Letting Go (2026) Original Pencil Drawing by Marina Ogai

I drew this while I was still holding on. Holding on to the idea that things can be brought back, negotiated, explained – that it is all still fixable if I find the right words. Drawing doesn't console you in periods like that. It keeps your hands busy while something inside settles itself without you.

By the end of the sheet it was quieter. Nothing became clear; the question simply stopped being a question. What was gone didn't get any smaller for it – if anything, it had a size for the first time.
