This story has captured the imagination of many great artists throughout the centuries. Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rubens, Cezanne and Cy Twombly have all painted it.

In Greek mythology, Leda was admired by Zeus, who seduced her in the guise of a swan. Their consummation, on the same night as Leda lay with her husband Tyndareus, the king of Sparta, resulted in two eggs from which hatched 4 children. One of them was the beautiful Helen of Troy, known to be Zeus's daughter. Her birth effectively set the grounds for the Trojan war.

I have portrayed Zeus as menacing, yet attractive. He is a god, powerful, surrounded by blinding gold, forceful and unavoidable.
