Laycock Dahlia (2021) Original Acrylic Painting by Nicholas Robertson

20.3 x 25.4 x 0.5cm (unframed) / 20.3 x 25.4cm (actual image size)

£250

Observed at Laycock Abbey Wiltshire UK and in my garden. I have used vigorous brushwork and texture in order to emulate the tangled agitation of foliage and flowers.

The work consists of a Rowney Cryla acrylic base coat of burnt orange over the gesso manufacturers finish. Opaque pigments have been used to lay down some areas, also acting as undercoating for sections of the subject matter. Subsequent layers of acrylic paint have been applied laced with Liquidex airbrush medium to achieve a wash layer. This thin multiple layering of pigment allows for subtle tonal attributes and a degree of luminosity avoiding the usual flat acrylic finish.

Finished with a coat of Winsor & Newton Satin UV varnish, this not only protects the painting but has a unifying effect. Ready for framing.
