Lay of the Land 2
Original one off Monotype print.
Gold Pigment, Oil, graphite, pencil, ink
The painting is supported on paper bonded to board.
Parts of the work are iridescent and will shine in the light, which I have tried to convey in the close up photographs of the work.
More about this work
The land that comprises North Mytholmroyd has been notionally divided with natural boundaries, each of which has then been analysed in terms of which feasible natural flood prevention interventions it would be possible to locate there. An estimate of how much water this would hold back from the valley at time of potential flooding was then arrived at for each of the areas.
I have responded to this study by analysing the land within each outlined area of opportunity and making a series of 'portraits' of each area. with the aim of both celebrating and drawing attention to the importance of this land for the future of the valley. The paintings refer to the structure of the land itself, the map and terrain features of each area, water - either above or below ground, and the possible interventions that could be made there. You can see elements of all these components layered in the paintings.
About the artist
My work has been selected for the Royal Institute of Painters in watercolour exhibition, Mall Galleries, London, (2024, 2023), ING Discerning Eye exhibition, London (2022) Sunday Times Watercolour competition London and Southampton (2020)
I hold a Master of Art (Fine Art) and BA Honours Degree in Fine Art.
My painting is bound up with examination of the land, and in particular, the ephemeral, those forces and presences that cannot be seen but which change and shape the land.
I have been painting every day for many years, since graduating with an MA in Painting. Over 500 paintings have been sold to collectors across the globe, from USA to Canada, Australia, Britain, Singapore, Germany, and all of Europe.
Paintings will be sent to you unframed, (unless otherwise stated in the description) and protected with cellophane or paper, in a re-enforced padded envelope or recycled box, on a Tracked Delivery service with the Royal Mail or Parcel Force International for large items.
