This oil painting began with the memory of a late summer morning in the countryside, when the kitchen table disappeared under a mountain of freshly picked plums.
I arranged a favourite mug, painted with lavender fields, beside a simple wooden bowl and watched how the sunlight poured across the fruit, turning the deep purples into glowing jewels and casting soft shadows on the worn tabletop.
I aimed to convey not only the appearance of the plums, but also the aroma of ripe fruit in the air and the serene pleasure of preparing breakfast in a sun-drenched country kitchen.
The still life with plums is written in impressionism and in the technique of "alla-prima", which means "immediately, in one step".
The painting on this canvas has its characteristics. I first applied a thick layer of paint to the canvas in different shades. Then I wiped off the contours of the drawing with a cloth wound around my finger, and after that, I applied coloured layers with a brush or finger.
The unpainted edges of the picture are also not an accident; they enhance the effect of vintage, give some lightness to the whole image.
