Land Marks II (2015) Original Oil Painting by John O'Grady

Do you feel the overall calmness of this piece and the possibilities the inner glow invites. I came back to the theme of marks on the land and the play of light on the landscape.

I wanted to explore how in paint you can create an inner glow, an inner light that seems to radiate from the canvas and transmit a positive feeling.

To obtain this effect, first, I layered a glaze of scarlet lake and violet paint over the brown of burnt sienna in the lower part of the painting.

Then, I scraped back to reveal the yellow orange underpainting and added lines and landmarks.

Above this focal point, a fine mist of puce colour that intensifies the glowing, other-worldly quality as if the mountain has a life force within itself.

This original oil painting is sold with a white frame ready to hang. It's an on canvas 8″ x 8″ x 0.75″. The framed piece is 11″ x 11″ x 1.5″.
