Etching on cream Arches paper. 1985.
Original artwork, drawn, etched and printed by the artist, Artist’s Proof, signed on the front.
Paper Size: 19.5” x 26” Plate Size: 13.8” x 17.8”

A recurring image in my work, repeated without apology, is of four beautiful ladies, dressed in their Edwardian finery, complete with parasols and flower laden bonnets, propelling their boat inexpertly through the water. The title “An Argosy of Beauty” was given to them by their original photographer who worked in the area around Bath around 1899.
Over several years I pictured them making a tour of Britain, posing for photographers and artists in many of the nation's best known beauty spots. Here the four ladies in their boat, along with other boating enthusiasts, visit Wilton House in Wiltshire, where they are welcomed at the Pallidan Bridge by Lady Maude and other members of the Earl of Pembroke’s family. The Bridge, modelled after a design by Palladio, was built in 1736.

Materials used:

Acid Etched Copper Plate, Printing Ink, Arches paper
