This portrait is one of the most personal and emotionally charged works I’ve ever created. I worked on it over the course of a year, constantly returning to adjust small details. It remains one of my favorites, not only for the technique but for the meaning it carries.
As a Leo by horoscope, I often see myself in powerful, introspective female figures. In this painting, I portrayed a woman with short hair — for me, a symbol of inner transformation. It was created during a very difficult chapter of my life: I was facing the decision to leave my village and move to a new city while my husband was recovering from spinal surgery. The golden, heavy texture behind her represents the weight of responsibility — but not a burden. It’s gold — a symbol of love, strength, and commitment.
At the time of my move, I left the painting at my parents’ home in the Kherson region, thinking it would be temporary. But when the war began in 2022, it remained there. My parents refused to leave their home, where they’ve lived for 35 years. During my two years in the United States, the painting was physically and emotionally out of reach — a reminder of all I left behind as I tried to rebuild a life abroad.
Now that I’m back in Europe, I feel that this painting is ready to be seen by the world. It’s time.
The process to retrieve it, however, is not simple. To bring it to Poland, I need to hire a specialized van driver from the front-line village, coordinate with my father to accompany the artwork to a nearby town, and then rely on a trusted contact in Ivano-Frankivsk who can issue the official document confirming the painting is not classified as a Ukrainian cultural treasure — a necessary step for legal export. From there, the painting will be transported across the border by minibus with a customs broker handling the documentation. It’s a complex, delicate, and expensive operation.
So the value of this artwork is not only in the technique, time, and materials — but in the journey it carries. It’s a piece of my story, and its delivery requires care, coordination, and cost. For the right collector, one who truly connects with this work, I’ve already prepared every step. The painting can be delivered to me in Wrocław within 8–10 days of purchase, and from there I’ll ship it to its new home.
