Lace Dress - the Heirloom (2026)Mixed-media painting by Suzsi Corio

This painting of a vintage lace dress belonging to an imaginary owner appears to be suspended in an empty room, a ghostly presence from a bygone era, inviting the viewer to make up their own story about the owner and her personality and history.
Maybe it was someone's wedding dress, or a confirmation dress? Or could it have been a special party dress?
It was made using layers of textured gesso, watercolours and inks.
The painting was then lightly sanded and painted with additional watercolour glazes to evoke a distressed, antique feeling.
I have made a series of paintings of vintage dresses, several of which have been selected for and exhibited with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour at the Mall Galleries London.
