I was inspired for this work from the annual Mummer game scelebrated at the end of February before meat Shrovetide and are akin to the carnival games from ancient times. The custom in Bulgarian lands dates back to Thracian culture and was celebrated during the days of the Thracian god Dionysus. These powerful ceremonies symbolize renewal, fertility, and the driving away of evil spirits. The dynamic composition and bold contrasts evoke movement, rhythm, and the primal force of the dance – capturing the timeless spirit of transformation and rebirth.
