"Kerjouanno Beach" is my attempt to capture that fleeting moment when you stand at the edge of the land, where the shore meets the sea, and you feel the air filled with salt, light, and motion. I painted this piece on location, inspired by the natural beauty of the Brittany coastline — its ever-changing sky, emerald waters, and rugged yet captivating shoreline.
I wasn’t aiming to reproduce the scene exactly as it is, but rather to convey its mood — vivid, gusty, almost musical. The brushstrokes are intentionally bold, thick, and expressive — like the wind whipping the waves or sunlight breaking through clouds. The colors weren’t chosen for realism, but for feeling: the warmth of the sand, the chill of the surf, the shadows cast by rooftops.
This is more than just a landscape — it’s a memory of early morning stillness, of the sound of the sea, of gazing toward the horizon where the sky meets the ocean. I wanted the viewer to feel immersed in the scene — to almost smell the salt air, hear the pebbles shift, and see the play of light come alive.
This artwork is made by traditional technology. Oil paints, canvas and linseed oil. I love to write etudes from life in a bright impressionistic manner. Small colorful strokes form a rainbow palette. I will try to convey the movement of air masses and the difference between illuminated and shady places.
