In 2022, wandering through the hills of Keri, Zakynthos, our host pointed us toward something extraordinary hidden behind his estate. “You must see the old pine tree,” he said with a knowing smile. The walk itself felt like stepping into another world. And then we saw it—a pine tree so ancient and massive that its branches had grown beyond reason, curving back down to touch the earth, then rising again as if each limb had decided to become its own tree—Nature’s architecture at its most wild and poetic. I took dozens of photos that day, captivated by the tree’s defiant beauty. But it wasn’t until this spring that one image kept calling me back to the studio. For months, I wrestled with this painting—searching for that elusive balance between chaos and harmony, between representing what I saw and expressing what I felt. Sometimes the most meaningful work demands a fight. Pine Tree from Keri 180 x 180 cm Mixed media on linen, aluminium 3D frame: oil paint, oil sticks, gel medium, digitally manipulated print on paper, and metallic chrome. The chrome catches light the way the sun filters through those ancient branches.
