Jurassic coast at night
Walking the Chesil pathway to West Bexington,
Resting at my favourite spot,
To look out to sea from the reed beds,
Mesmerised by the beauty,
Peaceful energy.
Words and past memories of this very special coastline of Dorset.
Original impressionist watercolour on 300gsm 140lb cold pressed watercolour paper bockingford.
Unframed watercolour inspired by the night sky over the sea and reeds.
I used a four colour technique using Windsor and Newton watercolours. I went back over this watercolour that I had started and left for over a year. I wet over the whole painting with a bushy hogs hair brush. Applying gentle brushstrokes of yellow gold watercolour paint over the monochrome tones. By magic I found the dull watercolour that I had created was enhanced with the shimmer of golden tones . I also highlighted the sea with turquoise and purple.
The effect that I achieved is so different to my other watercolours and I have learnt a new technique of watercolour layering. I etched out the subtle sea waves and reeds with my nails.
All my original watercolours are signed, titled and dated on the back.
Cold pressed watercolour paper bockingford 300gsm 140lb, Windsor and Newton watercolours, bushy hogs hair brush, squirrel hair brush, sable hair brush,
