Original artwork description:

40 x 50 cm (oval canvas) - paper and acrylic on canvas - 2025

Irulan Corrino is a character in the literary saga "Dune," imagined by Frank Herbert. The daughter of Emperor Shaddam IV, she is forcibly married to Paul Atreides Muad'Dib, who effectively seizes the throne of the Imperial Empire. Married solely for political purposes, Irulan is neglected by her husband but cares for her twins after his exile.

Respecting Irulan's original description, I created her portrait as a young blonde woman with green eyes, wearing an oriental-inspired outfit, since the Dune universe contains numerous references to the Islamic, North African, and Middle Eastern worlds. Rather than using one of the Dune volumes for the canvas, I chose maps from an old atlas with only oceans, to emphasize the contradiction between Irulan and Arrakis, the planet at the center of the saga. Indeed, Dune is a desert world, without water, where it never rains.

The canvas is varnished and equipped with a hanging system.

Materials used:

Paper and Acrylic on canvas
