Original artwork description
A desire to explore simple forms as still life studies and an encounter with Virginia Woolf's reflections on solitude sowed the seeds for this collection. 'Let me sit here for ever with bare things, this coffee cup, this knife, this fork, things in themselves, myself being myself.’
During my process I sketch and use cut paper so I can play with colour and composition. A lot of these works have texture where I have used collage paper to build interest, it juxtaposes with the simple and graphic style. Sometimes words from book pages peep through.
