This linocut print pertains to a high point overlooking the Delaware river. This is the land of the Lenape, better known as the turtle people or Delaware. Dutch iron ore miners would place a lookout there, in the event that Indians upriver from the mining site would be spotted. The miners weren’t welcome, so if found and captured, that would result in a death sentence. I climbed to the ridge and saw the same upriver bend of the Delaware unchanged since 1690. In the print I tried to create the same concealed view watching from the cover of pines and brush viewing the river through branches on the lower right of the print.
