Incoming 1 (2018)Oil painting by Simon Jones

I am fortunate in that i live both close to the coast and the countryside. As a child I remember going down to the beach with my Father. On occasion when the incoming tides where particularly dangerous the coastguard would patrol along the length of the beach in order to warn people of the imminent danger the fast approaching tide posed. In the wake of his Land rover he left ruts in the wet sand that always intrigued me, as the further they went out the closer they grew, reminding me of train tracks (but more imperfect). Memories such as these linger with me

Painted on very high quality professionally made Gallery style canvas on cross braced frame. Painting mediates between very heavy 'impasto' layers of paint and thin almost translucent washes.
