Original artwork description
The painting is based on the statue of the Greek river god Ilissos. The statue one of the Elgin Marbles, displayed as part of the Parthenon display at the British Museum. I was drawn to the contrast between the power of the stone sculpted body and the fragility displayed in the missing head and leg.
