It’s been awhile since I’ve painted a French Street Scene, and I was inspired by some recent strolls through Paris’ Latin Quarter…If I did have a FlowerShop, it would be situated exactly as pictured!! To one side of me, there’d be a place I could pop over to a few times a day, to grab an Italian espresso! (The best of the best; “Vergnano 1882”!) To the other side, a Home Decor/ Gift Shop; to inspire the “Nester” in me!! Before I even began this painting, I knew I wanted to include loads of collaged paper; scraps of decorative papers, other bits cut from magazines and catalogs. I even included a few real flowers and tiny leaves; something I’ve never done before!!The pace at which I built this out was slow, taking time to greatly let my instincts take the lead, even when I wasn't sure where that would end up. I am delighted with the final outcome, though. It really conveys the Feeling of a typical French Street ( Whether Paris, Provence, the Riviera, or…?) with Trees lining the sidewalks, while in between all manner of cheerful, colorful combinations of things, tell stories. The edges of this canvas are painted, so that it can be hung unframed.
