Original artwork description
This small impasto oil painting was made with all the exuberance, gusto and faith (as well as doubt and fear) central to any worthwhile act of creation, not excluding the primordial act of the creation of nature itself. The realization that the central figure left recognizable after the dust settles is that of a bird, standing resolutely and heroically in left profile, reinforces the intended theme of nature's enduring dominion. If birds had a say in the structure of nature's alignment it would surely take on a different appearance than the reality humans have decreed.
Influences, among others, include Max Beckmann, Edvard Munch, Bob Thompson, George McNeil, Richard Diebenkorn, David Park, Francesco Clemente, R.B. Kitaj and Willem de Kooning.
