Original artwork description:

Hushed Ember is a painting about what lingers rather than what announces itself.
I was drawn to the quiet tension between darkness and warmth here, letting deep, shadowed tones hold small movements of light. The surface carries a sense of something slowly breathing beneath the black, as if colour is remembering heat rather than displaying it.

As I worked, the gestures became softer and more instinctive. Subtle golds and muted reds drift through the composition, emerging and dissolving again, never fully settling. There is a feeling of restraint in this piece, a kind of held energy, like embers glowing long after the fire has lowered. I wanted the marks to feel unforced, almost private, inviting the viewer to come closer rather than taking everything in at once.

At 30 x 72 inches, Hushed Ember is designed to sit calmly within a space while still carrying presence. Its horizontal format allows the eye to move slowly across the canvas, finding moments of warmth within the depth of the dark. This is a painting for reflection, for quiet rooms, and for those who are drawn to subtle intensity and atmosphere rather than overt drama.

Materials used:

acrylic on canvas
