Manfred Hellweger's sculpture human nails XXI consists of numerous carefully welded wire pins that were sanded and painted with black matt acrylic lacquer before being sealed with a matt clear lacquer. The arrangement of the individual elements creates an organic-looking, vertically aligned figure whose abstract form is reminiscent of the human body, allowing the viewer to oscillate between perceptions of fragility and strength.
The base, made of light-coloured lime wood, provides a calm, contrasting counterpoint. Treated with Scandic Oil, the wood's natural appearance is preserved and protected from yellowing, giving the sculpture a clear, timeless aesthetic.

human nails XXI plays with contrasts: hardness and softness, density and emptiness, materiality and abstraction. The ascending form evokes quiet monumentality, inviting contemplative engagement with the relationship between humans, materials, and space.
