Original artwork description
Buildings anchor me to childhood, their faces ageing, their modernity replaced by decay. And yet here they remain, as they have always done so since my childhood. First seen half a century ago, I remember the building, passed fleetingly on the way to pantomimes and toy shops, to dental appointments and the wonders of the museum quarter. The style evokes a halcyon period of hope, of growth and rebuilding after the war, it tingles with the spirit of the 1950s and 60s. Of all the corners and places on earth, Hull is the only one I have always known. I paint it repeatedly, recreating embers of belonging. This work is detailed, created slowly, with attention to realism. It is a perfect addition for anyone with a passion for architecture, and for those who love the era.
Texture has been added to create extra depth. The canvas is 0.5 inches deep and can therefore hang without a frame if wished.
