This artwork is a large piece of work, landscape. A wide canvas was used so that the beach could be painted featuring as much of the scenery as possible. This is Holkham beach in the UK (Norfolk). The tide is low but there is still water trapped on the mud flats, in front of the distant dunes and beach. The sun is low and the shadows are long. The gaps in the trees sky holes) can be seen letting in the light from the sky behind.
