"Hello Samo" was inspired by the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose raw energy and layered symbolism reshaped the language of contemporary art. Within this painting is a symbolic element that echoes one of the recurring motifs in Basquiat’s signature works, reinterpreted here as part of a personal dialogue with his legacy.
The grey tonal passages draw influence from Basquiat’s music album Grey, extending the connection between visual art and sound. This muted palette balances the piece’s bold marks and vibrant energy, reflecting the duality of chaos and clarity, rebellion and reflection. Hello Samo is both homage and reinterpretation — a way of carrying forward the spirit of Basquiat while embedding it within a new voice.
