Harbor Moments in Cinque Terre (2026) Original Oil Painting by Paul Cheng

I was inspired by the hillside architecture, quiet harbor, and vibrant colors of Cinque Terre. In this painting, I connected the boats, reflections, and layered buildings to lead the eye from the foreground harbor into the heart of the town. Rather than describing every architectural detail, I used loose, simplified brushwork to capture sunlight, color, and the relaxed rhythm of life along the Italian coast.

I built the architecture with warm reds, oranges, and ochres, balancing them with blues, dark grays, and whites. Expressive brushwork and varied paint textures allow the buildings, boats, and reflections to move naturally between representation and expression, creating depth, movement, and a lively Mediterranean atmosphere.
