Important: It is a completely manual process and there may be variations in tone that make them unique.

Gum bichromate is a 19th-century photographic printing process based on the light sensitivity of dichromates. It is capable of rendering painterly images from photographic negatives. Gum printing is traditionally a multi-layered printing process, but satisfactory results may be obtained from a single pass. Any color can be used for gum printing, so natural-color photographs are also possible by using this technique in layers.

In this work I have applied two coats of gray. It is a similar process to cyanotype, but takes more time. You have to apply a layer of gelatin and wait for it to dry. Then apply the dichromate mixed with gum arabic and pigment and wait for it to dry to put the negative and expose it to the sun. Then it is washed to obtain the image. If we want more layers of color, we must repeat the same process.
Image format: 29.7x42 cm on Fabriano 250 gr watercolor paper.

Materials used:

paper light sensitive chemicals
