This living dinosaur is the Great Cormorant and day 16’s bird for #birbfest2024

Chances are whenever I manage to drag myself outside during the week, that I will wander down to the Rhone. Dangling my legs over the rushing water as I sit by the blue, green and sometimes grey river, a slick, black head will bob up out of the torrent, a cormorant fishing for its lunch. The age old challenge of trying to hold my breath each time he goes looking for more fish is a game I lose every time!

They’ve become familiar neighbours to me since I began living in Lyon, I thought it was about time to honour one of them in paint and pencil.

A4 acrylic, pencil and pen on paper
