Original artwork description
This is a kitchen table I can't go back to. A cobalt blue jug spills over with summer flowers. Oranges pile up in a patterned bowl, warm as if the sun just left them there.
I don't have a single photograph of my grandmother's living room. What I have is smaller and stranger — the smell of dust warmed by afternoon light, a dog barking somewhere past the window, the exact pink of a wall I'll never stand in again. No image. Just the feeling, still sharp after all these years.
So I paint objects instead of rooms — a jug, a bowl, a pear left on the table. Ordinary things, turned up bright, because that's how memory actually looks from here.
Working in oil pastel, I keep returning to still life as a way of holding onto warmth and home, one painting at a time.
This is what's left when the photographs are gone.
Oil pastel on paper, 42 x 29.5 cm (16.5 x 11.6 in). Sold unframed — ready for you to choose the frame that fits your space.
