Original artwork description
This painting is a study of that fleeting moment when the sun sits low on the horizon, turning the spray of a crashing wave into liquid gold. I wanted to capture the contrast between the deep, rhythmic blues of the ocean body and the brilliant, translucent teal revealed as the wave peaks.
Using an impressionist "wet-into-wet" technique, I worked quickly to maintain the energy of the water, using bold brushwork to convey the movement of the swell. My goal was to create a piece that feels both powerful and meditative—a window into the raw beauty of the Australian coastline.
