Golden Letters Beneath Autumn Leaves (2009) Photograph by sangwon jeon

25 x 38 x 0.1cm / 25 x 38cm (actual image size)

£487.96

This photograph captures the entrance to Birojeon Hall at Jikjisa Temple in Gimcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, its doorway framed unexpectedly by maple leaves turning at the edge of the season. Golden characters on a black lacquered plaque name the hall above blue-tiled eaves and dancheong painted in indigo, crimson, and jade — patterns so dense they seem to hum against the stillness of the wood beneath. The open blue doors draw the eye further in, toward a darkness the sunlight hasn't yet reached. What moves me here is the layering of time: leaves that will fall within weeks set against beams that have held their color and form for centuries. Nature keeps changing at the temple's edge while the hall itself stays fixed, patient, unmoved — a small reminder that some things endure precisely because they do not chase the season. Printed on fine art paper. Sold unframed; ready to be mounted or framed to the collector's preference.
