Original artwork description:

Usually, I go for large – the bigger the canvas, the better. But for these two works, I wanted to challenge myself. What happens when I force my rough relief technique within 30x30cm?
The inspiration came last spring during a bike ride through Rotterdam. Right by the mosque I always pass, there are young trees with burgundy leaves and white blossoms. That unexpected colour combination kept running through my mind.
Something fascinating happened in the studio. The small format made the works even more abstract. Up close, you lose your way – pure texture and colour. Step back a few meters and suddenly you see it: a glimpse through branches, leaves and blossoms toward the sky.
That visual transformation, depending on where you stand, makes these pieces special.
Mixed media on 3D linen canvas with digitally edited prints, gel medium, oil paint, oil pastel, golden chrome paint and matte varnish. Framed in hand-painted dark turquoise shadow box frames – 34x34x7 cm.
Available as a set or separately.

Materials used:

Print, heavy gel medium, acrylics, oil, oilbars, satin coating.
