Goat – reduction linocut print (2025) Linocut by Jennie Smallenbroek

40 x 40 x 2cm (framed) / 30 x 30cm (actual image size)

£406.86

Celebrate the charm, curiosity and determined spirit of the goat with this original, hand-printed reduction linocut. The 30 × 30 cm image is printed on 35 × 35 cm, 300 gsm Fabriano paper and brings warmth and character to any interior.

Expressive lines and intricate details capture both the graceful and resilient nature of the animal. The artwork was created using 13 layers of Caligo Safe Wash oil-based relief ink, resulting in rich colours and a vibrant, tactile surface.

This print is part of a limited edition of only 10. Each impression is individually printed by hand and therefore has its own subtle variations, making every print unique.

The reduction technique requires careful planning and precision. After each colour is printed, more material is carved away from the same linoleum block before the next layer is applied. Because this process is irreversible, there is no possibility of returning to an earlier stage or correcting the block once it has been carved. The design and printing process took more than two months to complete.

My work is inspired by the animals that bring joy to my life. My studio is situated in the Dutch countryside, where I hear sheep, horses and goats as I work. The decorative style of this print is influenced by Art Nouveau and artists such as William Morris and Alphonse Mucha.
