Go and Meet the Rain XVII (2023)Acrylic painting by Richard Heys

90.5 x 90.5 x 3.5cm (unframed) / 90.5 x 90.5cm (actual image size)

£2,430

This canvas is a development of a smaller piece on card from the start of my 'Go and Meet the Rain' series. It brings together a complex turquoise and teal ground with a floating burnt orange and trichromatic reds. It is very challenging to bring about a harmonious conversation with these complementaries, as they're so strong that they almost clash. I'm delighted with the resulting dynamism and find this such an uplifting "push" of a painting. Brilliant to look at before you open the door and go out into the world.

The Go and Meet the Rain series has its inception from a moving line in the ancient Book of Changes - the I Ching. This aphorism suggested to me the greening of the desert after rainfall. This directed me to move to that place in myself where my creativity bubbles forth, and in darker, more challenging times I feel a much stronger imperative to do so.
