Girl's beauty (2025)Mixed-media painting
by Yuliia Poraiko

£625.99

‘Girl's Beauty’ is one of the works from the series “Soul”, in which I explore different states of a woman as a natural phenomenon - spontaneous, deep, and light.

This painting is about the stereotypical attitude to a modern woman, about the view of society, which often forms an idea of ‘correct’ femininity through appearance and social expectations. I convey this through the tense pose of the girl - she seems to be carrying the burden of expectations imposed on her from the outside. It's not only about a visual ideal, but also about an inner state - when true femininity is trapped within the framework of other people's ideas.

The inscription ‘Braid is a girl's beauty’ is deliberately used as a symbol of one of the archaic but still alive stereotypes that a woman should be exactly like this and not different. Through this phrase, I raise the issue of freedom of choice, self-expression and the right to be yourself - regardless of other people's patterns.

The painting was created using mixed media, namely fluid art and traditional painting.
It has texture and glare in some areas, which are typical of the fluid art technique.

The inscription on the painting is written in Ukrainian.
