Composition 38 — Painting as Portal and Open Work

Composition 38 functions as an active and unstable threshold, a painting that does not close in on its own image but continuously opens toward a world in the process of formation. The surface does not offer a fixed representation; it operates as a permeable membrane between what is already formed and what is still becoming. The painting does not describe a space; it produces one in real time, through tension, fragmentation, and accumulation.

This opening is neither spectacular nor declarative. It emerges as a consequence of the image’s internal pressures: chromatic fissures, dense blockages, unstable passages that suggest the processes generating the work have not ended. The layers do not fully settle; they appear suspended in a state of ongoing transformation, as if the world behind the painting were continuing to develop beyond the surface of the canvas.

In this sense, Kloska’s painting functions as an open work, in which the viewer is not a passive receiver but an active mental participant. The image never offers itself in full; it requires reconfiguration through contemplation. The absence of a stable center, the fragmentation of directional forces, and the lack of formal hierarchy compel the viewer to construct paths, to revisit trajectories, to test relationships between zones of density and zones of instability. Meaning is not delivered; it is produced through perceptual interaction.

Pictorial space is not organized through classical depth but through degrees of access. Dark zones do not function as background or limit, but as transitional media. They slow down reading, create resistance, and force the viewer to continually renegotiate their position in relation to the image. Iridescent or lighter interventions mark points of permeability — areas where the structure seems to thin, allowing mental projection beyond what is immediately visible.

The internal movement of the work suggests a world in expansion, but without a stable direction. Diagonal and centrifugal forces indicate becoming rather than progress. Nothing is fully formed, nothing is definitively rejected. This logic of instability prevents the painting from being exhausted by a single reading. Each act of contemplation reactivates the image, generating a new, temporary configuration.

Within the Between the Black and Divine series, Composition 38 proposes that the “divine” is not a destination but a continuous opening of possibility. The portal constructed by the painting does not lead toward a fixed revelation, but toward a reality in constant reorganization, activated through the encounter between the work and the viewer.

Thus, the painting does not end at the edge of the canvas. It continues within perception itself, as an open, unstable system that exists only through a living relationship with the one who looks.
