A Day in Paradise: Apples or Oranges, 2026
Acrylic on canvas — Large-scale painting

In this painting, I return to the idea of paradise, not as a place of innocence, but as a space of choice. I wanted to step away from the traditional narrative of temptation and guilt, and instead present two figures who exist in the same moment, under the same conditions, yet move in different directions. Here, both decide. Both reach. Both choose their own fruit.

I was interested in breaking the myth. There is no single origin of the fall, no imposed hierarchy between them. Instead, I paint a shared tension: a suspended instant where desire, curiosity, and autonomy intersect. The figures are connected, yet distant, mirroring each other in gesture, but separated by intention.

The apples and oranges are not just symbolic objects; for me, they represent divergence. Different paths, different impulses, different ways of understanding the world. I wanted the viewer to feel that quiet but decisive moment, the one where something irreversible begins.

The forest is not merely a background. I conceived it as a silent witness, almost theatrical, enclosing the scene in a kind of psychological stage. The contrast between light and dark, front and back, softness and strength, is deliberate, it creates a dialogue between the figures without resolving it.

With this work, I explore the idea that freedom is inseparable from solitude. Each choice, even when made side by side, ultimately belongs to the individual. What interests me most is that fragile instant before the decision is fully realized, when everything is still possible, yet already changing.

This is a large-format piece meant to be lived with. The more time you spend with it, the more it reveals, subtle tensions, quiet contradictions, and the persistent question: what would you choose?
