Gathering in the Warm Light (2026) Original Oil Painting by Paul Cheng
22.86 x 30.48 x 0.51cm (unframed) / 22.86 x 30.48cm (actual image size)
£225.71
Original artwork description
I wanted to capture an ordinary yet intimate moment of people gathering at a city restaurant. Warm golden light glows from the interior, contrasting with the deeper browns and blacks of the foreground. Rather than describing each figure in detail, I used loose, simplified, and rhythmic brushstrokes to suggest gestures, tables, chairs, and umbrellas, allowing the people to become part of the surrounding atmosphere. Layered color, scattered highlights, and shifting edges convey the lively rhythm of conversation and the warmth of an evening shared together.
