Garden. Good Tidings

A garden is born through the co-creation of nature and humankind. We may plant a tree, lay a path, or choose the flowers, but eventually the garden begins to live a life of its own. Over time, it becomes a deeply personal place of strength, where doubts grow quieter and answers begin to emerge. And sometimes it feels as though the garden enters into a conversation with us, offering signs, leaving gentle clues, and reminding us that there is still room in this world for small miracles.

This painting began simply as a large canvas titled “Garden.” While I was working on it, I made the decision to undertake a 120 km pilgrimage immediately after the opening of the exhibition. Soon after making that decision and buying my ticket, I saw a rainbow. It was very delicate, appearing almost as a pale band of light rather than a brightly coloured arc. That moment stayed with me and found its way into the painting as a quiet sign, a good tidings above the garden.

The 120 km pilgrimage has since been completed, giving this small detail in the painting an even more personal meaning.

The work is the title piece of my solo exhibition “Summer Diary,” currently held at St. Catherine’s Church in the Museum of Churches of the Tsarskoye Selo Deanery until October 5.
