Original artwork description
At the Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh, a place of wonder and surprise, of creation and wonderful ideas. High ceilings, part Ancient Greece part Bohemia. A glorious Scottish palace of stone, a palace to the secret world of art; little dark rooms where one can be lost in 19th century Paris, taken on a surreal dance through the skies and streets of Spain. Scottish colourists, with pieces of glorious fruit and roses of delicate, sensual pastel. Brutal works that shock, footsteps echoing. But it is outside where I am drawn today, into the glory of a Scottish summer, elusive but worth the wait, into a garden of lavender and rhododendrons, a secret garden surrounded by stone walls, casting blissful shadows. Bees hum languidly as visitors enjoy the heat. The sound of cups and saucers, an aroma of freshly brewed coffee and warm scones. The work is a cheering souvenir of Scotland's capital, a great collection starter, an ideal gift. The canvas is 0.4 inches deep and can therefore hang without the need for framing.
