While painting this work, I wanted to capture the stillness and motion of falling snow. The valley feels heavy and expansive in winter, as snow drifts down like fragments of time—settling, dissolving, and reflecting in the water below. I intentionally left the scene slightly unresolved, allowing viewers to sense the cold air in motion and the quiet breath of life within the stillness.
I combined dry brushing, scraping, and broken strokes to convey the lightness and irregular rhythm of falling snow. The mountains and trees were built with layered grays and cool tones to establish mass, while the reflections were rendered with softer, horizontal strokes to echo the forms above. Small touches of warm color in the sky and distance introduce a restrained warmth into the otherwise cold scene.
