Original artwork description:

Ruined now, but still majestic. One of the Cistercian monasteries founded in the c12, which prospered until dissolved by Henry VIII in about 1539. Said to be the biggest privatisation in history, the king seized the monasteries for their wealth, and sold them off to his chums.
The painting shows part of the abbey church. The tower was on the crossing, but the long nave would be off the picture to the right
Lovely tranquil spot, timeless

Materials used:

Cold pressed watercolour paper
