Semi-abstract surreal nocturne. I like to think of it as illustration to some fascinating mysterious story or fable.
It's an experimental and unusual work for me when it comes to technique, in that it mixes phototransfer with classical painting.
I first played with developing some simple nature shapes from a traditional analogue negative directly onto the painting panel (those tree silhouettes and branches you can discern in the upper part of the composition) , and only than, getting in dialogue with those textures, I proceeded with oil paint glazes onto the prepared surface. Making sure that subsequent layers maintain transparency and let the underlying foliage shapes show through, providing the compositional counterpoint and being a sort of underpainting.
It was really engaging creative process and I'm fond of the resulting image, with its dynamic flow and mysterious evocative atmosphere.
The painting is on archival synthetic panel, secured with two layers of satin varnish. I will have the work framed upon your purchase and send it ready to hang (allow about 7 days for my framer to have everything done and ready for dispatch).
