This painting is part of the "object-flowers" series. Flowers are a classic motif. But I'm breaking away from the genre to produce a more dynamic painting. While the flowers are treated in black and white, my pictorial gesture treats the material in a lively way. What I like is the energy I bring to painting the motif. The colour absent from the flowers is found in the luminous background.
The painting has two distinct spaces. The flowers have their own light, which differs from that of the background.
I try out different colours because I'm also taking a decorative approach. Here the background is green. But in other paintings I use other shades, which allows me to encompass everyone's different tastes. Sometimes they are deliberately bright, paradoxically softening the picture.
