Painting: Oil, sand on Canvas.

Does art compensate for the absence of something? A portrait of a lost loved one, a still life of a vase of beautiful flowers long since wilted? If it does, it will not be able to compensate in any way for a disappearing world.

The Floe series of paintings refers to the disappearing ice floes in the Arctic and the devastating impact that their loss will have on our world. The scenes are imagined but informed by countless images of the melting ice caps, still mesmerizingly beautiful even in their destruction. Nothing will ever compensate for their loss, which we must strive to prevent.

Floe 6, showing the underside of a melting ice floe, is painted using exceptional quality Old Holland and Winsor and Newton Artists' series oil paints and mediums with the highest ratings of permanence and light-fastness. Sand is permanently affixed to the surface through the binding in the paint. The painting is on a professional quality Winsor and Newton canvas panel.

The painting will be packaged following best-practice guidelines and despatched by signed for and fully tracked and insured courier. It is signed on the reverse and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

I will make a donation from each sale to environmental and conservation charities.

Thank you for looking.
