This work is part of Dominic Virtosu’s larger “Jungle” series in which the artist questions ideas about his own subconscious mind through the visual exploration of a metaphorical jungle.

The imagery is powerful through its immediate impact: a visible and dense foliage envelops the entire canvas surface and only sparse areas are letting the light shine through. Approaching painting through this lens allows the artist to remain in the area of the speculative – leaving a lot of guesswork to be done by the viewer’s own interpretative spirit.

With “Finding Beauty”, Virtosu brings to life the image of a jungle corner with brown dark foliage. Sienna and brown hues are overwhelmingly present in this painting, setting a meditative, contemplative tone. Yet, not all is gloomy in this work – melancholy is pushed away by a bright pink and blue vine that meanders its way in between the big palm tree leaves. This metaphorical “twine of Ariadne” is made up of green and pink leaves, intertwined into a colorful expanding rope structure.
