We all know the classic image of angels. This artwork is my fantasy of how else angels can look like if we take an unconventional approach. My angels are fantastic translucent blue-pink creatures. They are surrounded by a bright pink shimmering aura filled with love for all living beings.

▶ ABOUT «FANTASY CREATURES» SERIES
One day I caught myself wondering: what if we could reshape our appearance whenever we wished, even change our anatomy? That idea grew into the «Fantasy Creatures» Series, a collection of portraits depicting beings who have adapted to life far beyond Earth. Their skin shifts with bold, chameleon-like colors, and their features follow their own strange inner logic: unusual, alien, and unexpectedly beautiful. Each figure symbolizes transformation, survival, and the vast possibilities of life on other worlds.

▶ ART PAINTING TECHNIQUE
I work in a distinctive mixed-media technique: first creating a rich, textured oil background on paper, sometimes adding watercolor layers for subtle depth. The creature’s face is then painted with acrylic.

▶ ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mariia Raskin (b. 1979, Kazakhstan) is an abstract-impressionist painter based in Turkey and Northern Cyprus. She holds a degree with distinction in Applied Arts. Her works belong to the permanent collection of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Art, and she has held several solo exhibitions in Cyprus, including one opened by the Prime Minister.
A member of the International Association of Art (IAA) and the Eurasian Art Union (EAU), Mariia is a two-time recipient of the Certificate of Artistic Achievement from the Luxembourg Art Prize and winner of the Boynes Monthly Art Award. Her artworks have been exhibited internationally and featured in well-known art publications and platforms. On Artfinder, Mariia exclusively presents her works on paper.
